EQproFILEã - BREEDING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MARES BY
DNA ANALYSIS
Combined use of
information derived from our tests and databases (including mPOWER®, GhP Score®and 1stBlood®) enables us to more accurately determine the
stallions that will allow best utilisation of a mare’s genetic potential (or
vice versa). We call this integrated approach EQproFile®.
The same system is applied to all mares but the data
can be presented to clients at three different levels. The complexity of each
is reflected by the tariffs.
No.1 Mare Data (M1): A detailed
report together with a list of genetically scored stallions. The report
describes the genetic status of the mare and in-depth reasoning behind the
recommendations. This provides valuable information for immediate and future
use.
No.2 Mare Data (M2): A report
summarising the genetic status of a mare, its mating requirements and the
reasons for stallion choice. It includes a list of best potential sires.
No.3 Mare Data (M3): Simply
a list of best potential mates, as included in the above mare reports. This
excludes reports and pedigrees but is based on the same genetic considerations
and DNA analyses. An explanation of the scoring system is provided.
MARE BREEDING RECOMMENDATIONS BY DATABASE ONLY (WITHOUT DNA
ANALYSES)
No.4 Mare Data (M4): Our latest research has enabled
us to construct the 1stBlood® database. In conjunction
with family breeding/performance data, genetics knowledge and experience, this
provides a more accurate appraisal of the sires best suiting a mare. A simple
potential sire preference list is provided.
EVALUATION OF SALES PROPOSITIONS (POTENTIAL BREEDING and
RACING STOCK)
Sales Analysis (S1): Using the 1stBlood® database in conjunction
with supplementary performance and breeding data we can provide a rapid
assessment of horses at the sales. This includes the ability to assess animals
for racing potential and breeding suitability.
EVALUATION OF RACING/TRAINING POTENTIAL AND STAMINA LEANINGS
Racing Analysis (R1): Once again, using the flexible and informative 1stBlood® database, in conjunction with supplementary performance data, we gain a valuable insight into the stamina and performance potential of horses in training. This can save time, money and failure by helping direct the racing and training careers of horses from the outset. This can be applied with or without confirmatory mPOWER® or GhP Score® DNA analyses.
STALLION BREEDING PROGRAMMES
The tools detailed
above also have application to the optimisation of stallion breeding
programmes. Through applications of these systems to DNA and data from a
stallion, we can help to prioritise nominations and visiting mares. This
service is flexible and can be provided either in the form of a single
recommendation or as an ongoing mare ‘screening’ programme.
PRIORITY SERVICES CONTRACTS (PSCs)
There are many
instances where owners and breeders have a requirement for a combination of
the above services and analyses. They may need application throughout the year
in relation to breeding, sales and racing animals. In actuality, they have an
ongoing requirement for our services. For these organisations we provide fixed
annual contracts that utilise all our genetic tools when needed. These
include:

Priority access to new data and prototype tests

Priority at busy times of the year

General close liaison with their staff and pedigree advisors

Provision of genetics advice as needed
In essence, we provide them with their own private laboratory and data source. We are also able to view our clients’ horses. All clients vary in their needs and we can tailor a contract accordingly. In all instances, we maintain strict client confidentiality.
DNA STORAGE – A LIVING PEDIGREE
Who
knows what the future will bring? It is probable, that future breeding
programmes will benefit from an ability to back-reference and compare DNA of
existing horses with predecessors. This will allow predictions of racing and
breeding characteristics and improved management. As the years progress, new
tests will be developed and further breakthroughs made. It is a wise move to
store DNA from horses to enable breeders and owners to make future
comparisons. DNA from all horses that we test can be preserved indefinitely.
We can also store DNA from horses that have not undergone analysis.
PRIVATE AND
BESPOKE GENETIC PROJECTS
Successful breeders and owners often have their own theories about what makes a successful racehorse. Using our own armoury of tests and databases together with broader genetic analyses we can help them to develop these theories and use the derived data to improve their racing and breeding results. We can even develop new tests for the ultimate exclusive use of a client. In short, we can provide private and tailored projects to order.
